Here you’ll find what life looks like day to day as a member of the Kelly family!
The good, the bad, and the not so perfect.
Life in the Kelly family is centered around faith, family, and making the most of the time we have together. Our weeks are a mix of school, sports, community theatre, church activities, family time, and the ordinary routines of home. Some days are busy, and some are slow. We love getting out and doing things together, but we also really enjoy a quiet night at home watching Disney movies while snuggling on the couch.
We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and our faith is an important part of how we live, parent, and serve others. We attend church each week, and as our kids get older, youth group and service have become meaningful parts of their lives. At the same time, some of the people we love most—our friends and even members of our extended family—don’t share our beliefs, and that’s completely okay. We believe people can love and respect one another deeply even when they believe different things.
We believe that taking care of our kids means taking care of their whole selves. We place a big emphasis on mental health, just as we do physical health, and our children have access to therapy when they need it. When conflict happens—and it absolutely does—we don’t sweep it under the rug. We talk about it, listen to one another, take responsibility, and try to do better. Steph’s experience as a therapist has certainly helped shape the way we approach these conversations.
Our parenting style is built around encouragement, positive reinforcement, and reasonable consequences. Sometimes that means losing a privilege, and sometimes it means taking a breath and doing a “do-over.” We want our kids to understand that making a mistake doesn’t make them a bad person, and that there can be opportunities to learn, repair, and try again. We also want them to grow into people who are responsible, honest, and accountable—who keep their word, own their mistakes, treat others with kindness, and understand that their choices matter.
We also believe some of the best parts of childhood are the memories you make along the way. We tend to choose experiences over things whenever we can. We love traveling together—family cruises, trips to Seattle, beach days, hiking, exploring new places, and simply finding an adventure wherever we are. We want our kids to grow up remembering the places we went, the people we were with, and the things we laughed about along the way.
And just to be clear: our life is not perfect. Sometimes the chores don't get done. Sometimes dinner is thrown together at the last minute. Laundry has a remarkable ability to remain unfolded far longer than it should. We have disagreements, bad days, busy weeks, and moments when we don't get it right.
But through all of it, there are a few things we never want our kids to question: they are loved, they are safe, and they are home. That is what we hope life in the Kelly family will always feel like.
